Uniden Voice for Engineering

A client with a technical question does not want reception. They want the right engineer.

Consulting work runs on deep focus and on being reachable, and those two things are at war all day. Every unrouted call is either an interruption to billable work or a client left explaining a structural query to somebody who cannot help them.

The bit nobody counts

Unrouted calls are billed to you, not to the client

Every call that reaches the wrong person costs twice: the interruption to whoever answered, and the delay to the person who actually needed the answer. Neither shows up on a timesheet.

1The wrong engineer answering is worse than nobody. It burns billable time and still ends in a callback, because the query was never going to be answered by that person.
2Site queries have a shelf life. A trade standing on a slab waiting on a detail will make a decision without you if the phone does not connect.
3New work enquiries look like nuisance calls. The one call that was a new client with a large project sounds identical to the fifth cold call of the morning.
Six things every practice says out loud

You have said at least four of these this month

These are not phone problems. They are the tension between deep work and being available, arriving down a phone line.

01

Deep work and a ringing phone cannot coexist

A calculation that needs ninety uninterrupted minutes gets four calls in it. The work takes twice as long and is worse for it, and the calls were mostly not for you.

The agent screens, routes by discipline, and only interrupts for what genuinely needs you.
02

Callers cannot describe what they need

"I need to speak to an engineer" could be a structural certification, a stormwater query or a supplier chasing an invoice. Reception cannot triage what it does not understand.

The agent asks the qualifying questions and routes on the answer, not on a guess.
03

Certifications and approvals are time critical

Council and certifier calls arrive with deadlines attached. A missed one can hold a project for a week.

Priority routing puts approvals ahead of general enquiries, every time.
04

Site visits make everyone unreachable

Half the practice is on site half the week. Clients ring the office, reach a desk phone nobody is at, and give up.

One identity that follows each engineer to site on the mobile app.
05

Nobody records the verbal advice

Engineering advice given on a phone call is still advice. If it is not on file, it is a professional risk.

Recording, transcript and summary on every call, filed against the project.
06

After hours means offshore clients get nothing

Work with a client in Perth or Singapore and your business hours do not overlap with theirs for long.

The agent covers the hours you do not, and books calls into the overlap.
Watch one of them get routed

8:50am. Before anyone is at a desk.

This is the call that used to reach a voicemail box. Here it is being answered by a Uniden Voice AI phone agent, in an Australian accent, from what you told it about your practice.

It sounds like it is from here. Genuine Australian voices, not a call centre accent and not a robot reading a script.
It knows your disciplines. Who does structural, who does civil, who does hydraulics, and who is on site this week.
It triages before it transfers. So the engineer who picks up already knows the project, the query and the deadline.
It protects billable focus. Non urgent calls become scheduled callbacks instead of interruptions.

AgentGood morning, thanks for calling. The team is in from nine, but I can take this now. What is it regarding?
ClientI need to talk to someone about a slab detail on the Wentworth Street job. The formwork crew is on site waiting.
AgentThat is a structural query on a live site, so I will treat it as urgent. Is the query about reinforcement or about the pour sequence?
ClientReinforcement. There is a clash with the service penetrations.
AgentUnderstood. Priya covers structural on that project and she is contactable from eight thirty. I am putting this through to her mobile now and sending her the detail so she has it before she picks up.
ClientGreat, thank you.
AgentConnecting you now. I have also logged this against the Wentworth Street project file.
What happened before the office opened
  • Query triaged as urgent, live site flagged
  • Routed to the structural engineer on that specific project
  • Context sent ahead so no time was spent re explaining
  • Call and summary logged against the project file
One number, routed by discipline

Stop asking clients to know your org chart

Publish one number. Behind it, calls find the right discipline, urgent site queries jump the queue, and everything else becomes a scheduled callback instead of an interruption.

Trading peaks

Your phone peaks the week every project wants sign off

Consulting volume is lumpy in a way headcount cannot follow. Approvals cluster, projects hit milestones together, and June brings a wall of work that needs to be certified before the financial year closes.

An AI agent absorbs that wall. It answers everything, triages properly, and turns the noise into a routed queue your engineers can work through, instead of a voicemail box that becomes an apology list.

Your phone should know which project is calling

Uniden Voice connects to more than a thousand apps and offers open APIs, so a call arrives attached to a client and a project rather than to a blank screen.

01 · ON THE RING

Screen pops before you say hello

The caller's name, their history and their open project appear on the handset or in the app as it rings, so the first thing out of your mouth is their name and not "who am I speaking with".

02 · DURING THE CALL

Click to call from anywhere

Ring a client straight from the record in your practice or project management system, without ever typing a number. Fewer wrong numbers, and every call logged against the right file automatically.

03 · AFTER THE CALL

Notes that write themselves

Recording, transcript, AI summary and the next action land in your CRM or your shared drive. Nobody has to remember what was promised on a Friday afternoon.

Why Uniden, and not the other twelve

An Australian phone platform for a profession that has to stand behind its records

Plenty of platforms will sell you AI. Very few keep your client conversations onshore, and almost none are backed by a brand that has been in Australian hands since 1966.

Onshore, end to end

Designed and built in Australia, hosted in Australian datacentres, and supported by Australians you can actually get on the phone. Your customer conversations do not leave the country.

An accent that lands

The AI answers in a genuine Australian voice. It matters, because a caller who thinks they have reached an offshore call centre hangs up before you get the chance to help them.

Desk, pocket and back office

The EVOC2 desk handset where you want something solid to grab, plus real Uniden apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android. Same number, whether you are at a desk or on site.

One provider, one bill

Keep your numbers including 1300 and 1800, and take the NBN connection from us too. Fewer vendors to chase when something goes wrong at the worst possible moment.

Straight answers

The questions engineering practices ask us first

Can it route on the technical content of a call?

It routes on the answers to questions you design. If your split is structural, civil and hydraulics, the agent asks what the query relates to and routes accordingly, including which engineer is on which project.

It is not guessing from keywords. You define the triage, the agent runs it consistently, and it never routes a live site query to an inbox because reception was at lunch.

Is a recorded and transcribed call a professional risk?

Most practices find it is the opposite. Verbal advice given without a record is the risk. A recording, a transcript and a summary filed against the project turns a phone call into part of the project record.

You control retention and who can access recordings, and Australian hosting means the record stays onshore.

What happens when the AI cannot help?

It hands over, and you decide where. Anything relating to a live site, a defect or a professional opinion can go straight through to a person, to a specific queue, or to a manager's mobile.

The caller is not asked to repeat themselves either. Whoever picks up gets the context the agent already gathered. Outside hours the agent takes the details, sends an SMS confirmation and queues the callback.

We run more than one office. Does it handle that?

That is where it earns its keep. You advertise one number and we route behind it: by office, by time of day, by queue, with overflow so a call at a flat out office rings somewhere quieter instead of ringing out.

Each office can keep its own greeting and its own direct number as well. Reporting rolls up across all of them, so you can finally compare how each one handles its phone.

Do I have to change my phone number?

No. Number portability is standard, including 1300 and 1800 numbers, so the number on your letterhead, your certificates and your professional listings and on years of Google results stays exactly as it is.

We port it across and plan the cutover around your hours, not ours.

What happens if the internet drops?

Calls keep flowing. The mobile app keeps working over 4G and 5G, so your people can answer on their handsets while a site connection is down, and call flows can be set to divert to mobiles automatically.

You can also take your NBN service from Uniden Voice, so the connection and the phone system are one provider with one support number, instead of two companies each suggesting the problem belongs to the other.

How long does it take to get running?

A single site can be live quickly, because the apps need no hardware and the handsets arrive ready to plug in. The part worth doing properly is the call flow and the AI agent's knowledge of your business, and we build that with you rather than handing you a manual.

Number porting is the one step with an external timeline, so we usually run your new setup alongside the old line until the port completes. You never trade a day without a phone.
